To say it’s been a busy month would be an understatement. The first week of December I got married and the second week my husband had a tumor removed from his head.
The first night while he was in ICU I couldn’t help but just sit there and hold his hand. I was thinking of all of the little moments we have had along the way and how he would always take such great care of me. I wondered if he would be the same person or if he would have a different personality when he woke up.
As I sat there I softly whispered, “I love you”. He moaned and said, “I love you too.” My heart skipped just knowing he could recognize my voice. The nurse came in to take his vitals and he said, “I have a present for you.” I looked at the nurse and she rolled her eyes at me and smiled. We both knew he was on another planet so I played along and said, “Thank you so much! What is it?” He said, “here.” I said, “where?” He paused for a moment and said, “my hand.” I looked down at his hand and saw he was giving me the finger. The nurse started laughing and I couldn’t help but burst out laughing as well. I said, “Really? You’re out of surgery for less than an hour and you’re already giving me the finger?” He started laughing with his eyes shut and then began to snore. I sat back down and quietly thanked God, Buddha, the stars, the moon and everything else in the universe that allowed my wonderful husband to still have his twisted sense of humor.
Later on that night I was going through my purse to find some gum. I found a handwritten note that he had placed in my purse earlier that morning. It said, “No matter what happens today don’t ever stay where you are tolerated…go where you are celebrated! You are the best thing that has ever happened to me and I thank you for being in my life and loving me.”
It’s amazing to see how things do change when you start thinking and believing that you ARE worthy of being loved and being treated well. 🙂
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
